Who we are
Spirit Creek Farm
We are two organic farm families in northern Minnesota, farming side by side for nearly two decades. For years, we supplied produce to Spirit Creek when it was run by its founders, Jennifer and Andrew Sauter-Sargent. When they decided to pursue new passions and close the business, we teamed up to keep it alive! This opportunity allows us to add value to our produce and keep our close-knit crew working year-round.
Karola & Rick Dalen – Northern Harvest Farm
Rick and Karola Dalen have been farming in northern Minnesota since 2005, when they founded Northern Harvest Farm. With backgrounds in environmental studies, ecology, and botany, they gained hands-on experience on organic farms in Spain, Wisconsin, and Minnesota before starting their own CSA farm. For nearly two decades, they have focused on building healthy soil, practicing sustainable farming, and strengthening their community. Over the years, they’ve mentored fellow farmers, including Adam Kemp, who has been working with Northern Harvest since 2008.
Jackie & Adam Kemp – Uff-da Organics
When Adam started farming at Northern Harvest, he quickly fell in love with the rhythm of farm life. The following summer, Jackie worked at another Wrenshall organic farm, The Food Farm. Inspired by the area's strong grower community, they decided to start their own venture. After marrying in 2012, they jumped at the chance to buy land across from the Dalens, transforming a garage shell into a cozy home where they started their family and farm.
While Adam grew strawberries and salad greens, Jackie built a career in low-income housing, rising to senior director at 1Roof in Duluth. In 2020, they built their farmhouse, and two years later, with the purchase of Spirit Creek, converted their original home into a kitchen facility. Today, Adam continues to farm, manage kitchen operations, and work part-time with his friends at Northern Harvest.
The Crew
Spirit Creek wouldn’t be what it is without our incredible crew. Their skill, dedication, and hard work make everything we do—on the farms and in the kitchen—possible. A huge thank you to Jon, Brendin, Clara, and Erik!
